Pope Reaches Out To Muslims

A day after his homily message of outreach to formally begin his papacy, Pope Benedict XVI, reached out to Muslim religious leaders saying that he " expresses his appreciation for the growth of dialogue between Muslims and Christians, both at the local and international level. He added that both Christians and Muslims' "efforts to come together and foster dialogue are a valuable contribution to building peace on solid foundations".

Thysdrus is the ancient roman name of a small city in Tunisia,North Africa. The city's name today is ElJem and it happens that it is my hometown :). Thysdrus was already a prosperous city in the II and III century, surrounded by hundreds of hectares of olive trees. The wealth of oil exports to Rome had created a rich middle class, which would not tolerate Roman interference in their own affairs. In 238, the city rose up against the Emperor Maximiliam and proclaimed Gordian proconsul.Thysdrus is a site of one of the best preserved roman amphitheatres and its museum has one of the largest collections of mosaics in the roman world.
