According to a survey of presidential historians organized by the University of Louisville's McConnell Center, US President James Buchanan is rated number one on the list for failing to avert the Civil War...

"-9: Ronald Reagan and the Iran-Contra Affair, the effort to sell arms to Iran and use the money to finance an armed anti-communist group in Nicaragua."

This is a mis-characterization of what the Iran-Contra scandal was about. The intent was to get the hostages in Lebanon freed. The other intricacies were merely a smoke screen.

Those are some dissappointing historians!

ohh...
thx for tht craig.....

hmmm and where does Bush junior rank? he went war against Iraq, for suspicion of WMD.

Instead, found nothing, killed thousands of civilians, and American soldiers had to pay their lives for his lies.

Ohh, wait, he didn't go to war because of WMD, but because he wanted to liberalise the Iraqi citizens.... right..

Craig thx for the clarification :)

Cerebrator:I asked myself the same question but I think these ratings deal only with former US Presidents and GWB is still in office so he is not listed!I bet he would be on top of the list :P

Interesting, A Tunisian guy and a guy from Singapore, commenting on the worst US Presidents. You guys ever think about how absurd that seems?

I don't even know the name of any past or present Tunisian or Singaporean(?) government official, and even if I did, I wouldn't have the temerity to comment on the person's job performance.

Hannibal, are you in the US by choice? If so, can I ask why you remain? I've been reading your blog for a few weeks and I've never seen yo say anything good about the US.

Craig let me make things clear for you once and for all and please no offence.I've been reading your comments and I found a certain number of them quite interesting and sometimes provocative but nonetheless constructive. This time I found your last comment somehow unfriendly. For my comment was crystal clear " I thanked you for the clarification" and my answer to Cerebrator was only for fun.Having said that, I would like to tell you that this is my blog and I am free to say what I like, those who don't like my approach or who don't agree with my views or don't find what they are looking for I just tell them thank you very much for the visit and please don't come again. This blog as you can see is just an INFORMATIVE one for I rarely take personal standpoints on issues unless it's something that needs some crticism.I am neither Republican nor a Democrat nor anti-american, I am just reporting what's going on in this world including the US. As you may have guessed, most of the information I am posting is 100% US made so I don't see any ABSURDITY or TEMERITY in reporting about US Presidents' performance. Posting a piece of information about the performance of US Presidents may seem strange and useless to you but I found it strange and feel pity for you if you don't know any present or past Tunisian or Singaporean official! but you are not to blame. I don't claim universal knowledge but I am a simple guy who through this humble blog is looking for things that I hope some readers will find interesting and if some of my readers are not satisfied with the content of my blog I respect their views but I would like to ask them to shut the door after their visit.Coming to my being here in the US, I would like to tell you that I am someone who is lucky and happy to live in the US. I am here by choice and I like and respect the American people, in this respect my blog has nothing to do with me being here and I am sorry to say that neither you nor anybody else will decide if I should stay or leave. My advice to you Craig, if you are looking for praise blogs I can provide you with hundreds of them, but be sure you won't find what you are looking for in my blog! The good things about the US? there are millions of them but I prefer to keep them for myself!

I apologize if I was a bit harsh but I think the comment was even harsher!

Good luck!

"Interestingly, we didn't see any US sanctions or embargo after that. Regional strategic interests were deemed more important."

I'm not going to try and explain Jimmy Carter's behavior. Worst US President in history, in my opinion. And I certainly won't try to eplain it in regards to an incident I know nothing about."

Mere hypocrisy...
