Ouvrage sur "Les Tourbas Dans La Ville De Tunis"
"Les Tourbas dans la ville de Tunis" est le titre d'un ouvrage écrit par M. Mohamed Béji Ben Memi, adjoint au Maire de Tunis. L'ouvrage en question traite des spécificités architecturales et de l’historique des deux principales « tourbas » (lieux de sépulture) dans la médina de Tunis, la « tourbet El bey » et la « tourba El Bechia » qui remontent toutes deux au dix-huitième siècle. Yes Beji benMemi is also the current director of the INP that is the main institution that is i8n charge of the archeological sites in Tunisia... not all directors of the INP are archeologists or experts in the field but Mr Ben Memi is actually an expert... I think three years ago he submitted his "habilitation" (the next thing after the PhD in the French... and it's the highest scientific degree)... and he's an expert on Islamic architecture... just a note about al-Turba for those who do not know it: it's mainly an Ottoman institution that flourished mainly during the Ottoman period in Tunisia and especially beginning of the 17th century... The most original and earliest Ottoman turbas are obviously in Turkey: in Bursa and then in Istanbul itself; in Bursa we have the tombs of the early Ottoman sultans from the end of the 14th century...
