(AP, Jan. 27, 2006 2:02 PM)- The U.S. Army in Iraq has at least twice seized and jailed the wives of suspected insurgents in hopes of "leveraging" their husbands into surrender, U.S. military documents show.
In one case, a secretive task force locked up the young mother of a nursing baby, a U.S. intelligence officer reported. In the case of a second detainee, one American colonel suggested to another that they catch her husband by tacking a note to the family's door telling him "to come get his wife."

This story broke about the same time Abu Ghraib did. I wonder why they are re-reporting a story from 2 years ago? In fact, it was part of the Abu Ghraib scandal. One of the allegations was from immediately after the invasion in 2003, when they were tring to get one of the top Republican Guard generals to turn himself in... one of the guys high up in that deck of "cards" they used to have.
Not an unusual thing at all in civilian law enforcement. They usually claim some family member is "wanted for questioning" about the person they want to catch. It never works. Bad guys never turn themselves in just because their friends or relatives are catching heat. That's why they are called "bad guys." Dunno why they even tried it! Novices...
